WE LOVE ANGELA SO MUCH

Imagine the following case: one morning you wake up and instead of being in the warm security of your home, you are a not very proud citizen of Robert Mugabe´s Zimbawe, Paul Kagame´s Rwanda or Teodoro Obiang´s Equatorial Guinea. If they you had the full knowledge (for example if you had free access to information and knowledge of the politics of other countries) and you had to choose between having the president (sorry, dictator) that governs your country and for example Angela Merkel ...
I think I'm making a pretty obvious answer question but I would highlight the following points:
1.-Access to accurate and truthful information allows people to decide. A corrupt government tries to keep their citizens in disinformation, hiding the positive results of countries that do well and exaggerating their own achievements with a populism overwhelming.
2.-Democracy is to choose among all who we want to lead us. Now, if from the various candidates we believe are not suitable for government, it would be logical also to vote not to rule us. I refer not to vote blank, I mean the fact expressly forbid with our votes (or the sum of them) one or several people because we believe that one or none of the candidates are qualified and we want different ones.
3.-It seems implicit (I do not know if it will be contained in all constitutions) that to be president of a country, the candidate must be a citizen of that country. If we consider that a politician from another country has proved to be sufficiently well prepared and can maintain the necessary neutrality to avoid favoring their country of origin, Would not many people be willing to put aside their chauvinism and vote for a foreign candidate to improve the situation of their own country?
Perhaps in the initial approach I've gone to the extreme cases between extreme continents, but I think the same question can be formulated inside Europe itself, between their countries.
Constantly we see people (in many cases friends and relatives) migrate from one country to another looking for a better life.
“Good” countries are filled and "bad" countries are emptied of citizens leaving their political govern without anybody to rule, as in the fantastic story "About the exodus" from the recently deceased Mario Benedetti.
Fortunately, the Communications and Information accelerate these processes, by punishing the bad governments and accelerating the progress of democracy.
As in Section 3 we propose the direct question the validity of the state constitutions, why couldn´t we "globalize" the decent politicians (that rare and divine treasure), we will try to go beyond with the next point that concerns directly to the principle of territorial integrity:
4.-If in Germany live five million Turkish immigrants and another three million would like to go, do not these immigrants prefer to live in Turkey and being ruled by the Germans? Could not those 10% of the Turkish population continue to live in 10% of Turkey without losing their identity but under the German government? To our minds come the idea of a lot of German companies coming enchanted to be established in that 10% of Turkey and a host of workers who would be equally delighted to have work without having to emigrate. Although it sounds utopia, it seems more legal than Exxon and China pushing to fill the pockets of the Chadian dictator in exchange for plundering its natural resources.

Lets focus in the event that will fill the news for a long time: The Pigs (Portugal, Ireland, Greece and Spain or PIIGS with Italy also included).
Case 1.-Greece does not pay debt, Europe print more Euros, the currency is devalued and all Europeans lost.
Case 2.-Europe and the IMF take control of Greece until the debt is paid. (Lets see how many Greeks are still in Greece by then)
Case 3.-Europe makes a security fund of 750.000 million euro (That all we will pay ¿who else?) and the problem will keep growing because we will think that we are safe.
Case 4.-Greece in the last instance offers public land to the creditor countries in exchange for debt. Creditor countries they sell to investors and recover the loan. These private equity investors revive the economy. Did anyone think about that option? Nobody has thought about the European Union and the IMF are a huge bank that if you don´t pay, they will get your "house"? Nobody thought that what these countries really need is to start producing, and not what a famous president claims, that it´s for more consume?
At the end people will pay and will have to uproot and seek other countries more convenient. We will choose the country where to live as anyone chooses a car or a house just because because the globalization of information makes us see the countries as the showcase of a store.
Since the title I have ventured to remind the emigrant who was Julio Cortázar and "We Love Glenda So Much," one of his wonderful books of short stories, I'm going to afford to do another exercise of imagination.
In the next election I will vote for Angela Merkel, who seem more concerned with Greece than greek politicians themselves. Obama, step by step, I think he is doing well. I know some (mostly a women) prefer the impetuous Sarkozy. I´m sure there are great politicians in the Nordic countries. At the end it doesn´t matter whether if it´s right or left, blue or red What is needed are good politicians and committed to the welfare of their country.
I'll finish this entry with links to two videos essential for everyone (especially politicians should think carefully about them if they wish to continue their vocation): Michelle Bachelet finishes her presidency amid the applause of the Senate (final minute of the five minute video)

And with affection from the people of Chile in the doors of La Moneda Palace

There's still hope.

  1. Good post! keep it up!
In the end, all that matters is the ability to adapt, organize and manage time and resources (especially while facing a crisis), without any concern to the country where this is happening. Nordic nations have proven once again that a good planning, rigorousness and "twice thinking" pay off.
More important than that is to be sure that all the ideas, decisions and actions are the right ones, otherwise we fall into the other extreme. As counterargument to the "too much planning", politicians should avoid the dangerous and tempting thoughts that they are above nature's laws and can chase away the clouds (and flood half of Europe) just because they have to proudly wear their uniforms while marching in the Red Square. :)
