Today September 22nd is the celebration in Bulgaria of the nation´s "Independence Day" .
The strange thing is that many Bulgarians are confused because the day of the liberation of the nation from the Ottoman Empire was the March 3rd, 1878.
Then, how is appearing this date has never before been celebrated ?.
We could enumerate that Bulgaria has been under Macedonian rule, Roman, Byzantine (well, before that, the Huns were making their own mess), Ottoman (from 1393-1396) and then Russian (after they changed from the German side in World War II) .
A few days ago a Bulgarian girl told me a significant sentence: "We are a nation of slaves." I disagree, but it´s certain that they are a too few people located in a very bad place.
If you dive a bit in history, You can find that the in September 22nd, 1908 Ferdinand I Saxo-Coburg, with support from the Austro-Hungarian empire proclaims the independence of Bulgaria (which was already independent) overthrowing the dictator Stambolov and proclaiming tsar himself.
This fact is still relevant, but its importance is relative to other events of the history of a country that until recently celebrate (and many people still do) the establishment of communism.
Countries change and events are changed.
The reality is that 15 days must be justified as public holidays per year.
Take another point of view: If for the Bulgarians is holiday, is for the Turks a day of mourning?.
In Spain we celebrate "Columbus Day" or “The Hispanic Day” but in South America what matters is the respective day of Independence and Spain….. Well keep Spain out there, across the Atlantic Ocean.
Would Spaniards be amused for the celebration of Trafalgar or english people as well, for the north American “Independence day” celebration?
After pointing this, I would like to highlight another fact that is most inconvenient. Take the example of calling Valencia:
-Hey! I need some bank guarantees.
-But we are in “Fallas” we have the whole week of celebrations and days off!
This situation also occurs in reverse of course. When there is not holiday in Valencia, we have it here. It is like a Jet-Lag at the level of work days, not hours.
In this globalized world that works like network, this lack of coordination produces failures and delays often not provided. I call them them with the engineering term "Charge Losses."
The system works with certain power or pressure but there are "charge losses", and these leaks have globally a big economic.
We could drink beer to celebrate the local Saint, "Columbus Day" and "oktober-fest" all at once. Most countries could coordinate. Well, not Christmas with Ramadan, of course.
On the other hand, to paraphrase the French, how beautiful is the difference!
And if you lose money with the lack of coordination, we can not imagine how much money is earned by exploiting the difference!
